Lilburn is located northeast Atlanta in Gwinnett County. The city is rooted in the railroad that still runs hourly through Old Town near the city’s municipal building. Lilburn was incorporated in 1910. In 1920, a devastating fire destroyed the downtown, then the boll weevil destroyed the cotton crops and the local economy followed quickly by the Great Depression.

With the increase in automobile usage, the business district shifted to be along Lawrenceville Highway. An effort has been made recently to re-vitalize the old historic portion of town.
