Home Park

Home Park is one of Atlanta’s oldest neighborhoods becoming part of the City in 1909 while providing residences for the Atlantic Steel Company. The Atlantic Steel Company was shut down in the 1990s and it’s 140-acre site was entirely redeveloped into Atlantic Station. It’s also known as West Midtown due to it’s location on the west side of the Downtown Connector from Midtown Atlanta.

The residential development of Home Park was fostered by the growth of Atlantic Steel as well as the Exposition Cotton Mill on West Marietta Street, the Miller Union Stockyards off Brady Avenue, and the White Provisions Company on Howell Mill Road. In 1909, the neighborhood was incorporated into the City of Atlanta when a state ordinance expanded the City’s boundaries north beyond Fifth Street.

The more recent and profound trend of young people wanting to avoid long commutes and live in walkable in-town Atlanta neighborhoods has also sparked renewed interest in our neighborhood. Home Park covers approximately 450 acres and contains 945 residential parcels. The oldest house dates back to 1890. Home Park homes feature an urban blend of bungalow, traditional, and contemporary construction built over the last 100 years.

The neighborhood is composed of bungalows from the 1940s and new construction infills. The neighborhood was developed by Edgar H. Sims, Sr. an Atlanta builder and developer, who also developed Collier Hills and a number of other subdivisions in the Atlanta area during the 1930s and 1940s.

West Midtown has not only had a resurgence in residents, but also in dining. Westside Provisions District is the centerpiece of an eclectic and bustling community on the edge of the neighborhood. And the beginnings of Little Italy off of Hemphill Road have foodies raving.
